Black Dog Charters is owned and operated by Captain Nelson Van Liere, a USCG Licensed, fully insured, and seasoned mariner with many years of experience on the water.
After years of fishing with friends and family and a recent career change, Captain Nelson Van Liere decided to make his passion his full-time career. Now Black Dog Fishing Charters invites you to pursue your same love of the salt air and fish or enjoy a day at sea in North Florida in Jacksonville, including the St Johns River, Intercoastal Waterways and the Atlantic Ocean.
“My goal is to provide clients with an escape from your normal everyday routine with a day on the water. So, get out of your office and join us for a day of adventure!” Captain Nelson Van Liere.
Weather or Not?
As the Captain, the biggest concern I have is always the weather. Before each charter I watch the weather closely and monitor the Weather Channel, the local news and the NOAA Marine weather report. Even if the weather is predicted to be ideal for a charter I always proceed with caution. The weather is the primary reason a trip might be cancelled or cut short. Considering all the variables that go into a great boating experience, I consider the weather the “X” factor. If I cancel the trip due to weather concerns, you will get a full refund.
On days when the seas are too rough for off-shore or if off-shore is not for you, I am perfectly willing to fish the St. Johns River and Intracoastal Waterway for inshore species such as Trout, Redfish and others.
